If you live in Japan with Working VISA, every one, there maybe five years, you have to go to the Immigration to submit the application to renew your VISA to continue your life in Japan.

But for foreigners who will extend their VISA status for the first time here, they have o idea how you could extend your VISA status. They want to know where they should go to submit the Application and what they need to submit.

Even people who’ve already experienced VISA extension have some concern over results of their application for renewing Working VISA as following.

I lost my job. Can I apply for extension”?

“My application for extension is rejected. I want to know whether I could apply again for extension”

In this article, I’ll explain about the process to renew your VISA status and answer to two questions; a.” I lost my job. Can I apply for extension” and b.”? My application for extension is rejected. I want to know whether I could apply again for extension”

1. How to apply for extension of your VISA status.

Check which Immigration Bureau you need to submit the documents

You need to submit the documents to an Immigration Bureau or Immigration Office in charge of applicant's intended address.

Check the following webpage to find an Immigration Bureau you need to go

After you submit your application for extension and if you don’t receive the result of the application until your current VISA status expire, you could stay in Japan for 2 months from the date your VISA expire.

2. Two questions

a.” I lost my job. Can I apply for extension”?

In this case, you can’t apply to renew your Working VISA since you don’t continue the activity which you are allowed to do with your current VISA status. If your job is terminated by your employer, you could apply for Change of Qualification for 6 months Designated Activity VISA to continue job hunting after your current VISA status expire.

b.” My application for extension is rejected. I want to know whether I could apply again for extension”

I think you get now Designated Activity VISA for 30 days or 31 days. In both cases, you can’t apply for extension again. You need to apply for Change of Qualification or go back to your country and then apply for COE as you went to Japan for the first time.

If you get 31 days Designated Activity VISA, I recommend you to apply for Change of Qualification into Working VISA. You could get 2 months from the date of expiration if you don’t receive the result of the application until your 31 days VISA expire.

If you get 30 days VISA, it is quite difficult to get approval for the application of Change of Qualification. Even when you apply for Change of Qualification, you can’t get 2 months from the date when your 30 days VISA expire if you don’t receive the result of application until the VISA expire.

Today, I explained about renew of your Working VISA. It is quite difficult for usual foreigners to know the risks you might be rejected on the renewing. If you have concern on the extension, contact us to book for consultation.
